THUNDER

We don’t know anyone (including ourselves) who can say they watched the Mtv Movie Awards on Sunday. Needless to say, everyone is talking about this clip and fuck it, why not us. It’s been awhile since we’ve seen Stiller this funny, but of course RDJ is gold. If you want a preview of what it will be like when the SRO crew hits Comic-Con this year, well, here you go. Too bad it’s an Mtv embed, it hurts everytime.

If you don’t read the Yellow Stereo, then you should. It’s always full of worthwhile information and great recommendations on music. Anyway, it looks like film is also something the Yellow Stereo has an affinity for because this list of best moments in music/film is great. All the choices I can agree with and I definitely have a penchant for well made movies using well made music that I love, in scenes that are classic moments in cinema. I remember reading this last year when it was originally posted, but PJ was nice enough to repost and re-link the songs and is also hoping to do a new list this year. If you have any suggestions, comments are being accepted for inclusion in a new list. Get on over there and get your read on.

For the past few years, we’ve been attending the L.A. Film Festival watching various films and covering the pertinent music video showings. This year will be no different, as we’ll be there in full effect (most likely running late for each screening). Also as with each year, we encourage you to come out and support the directors and videos playing, as well as chat us up, high five us, punch us, buy us a few drinks or all of the above.

The news on The Spirit is that it just got bumped up to a December release date, making for a nice little Christmas present for all you comic junkies out there. I’ll admit that I’m not familiar in the least with this comic from Will Eisner but from the looks of the trailer and cast involved this is going to be an awesome movie and further the legitimacy of Frank Miller in Hollywood-land. Let’s hope for the best. I’m sure we will be inundated with The Spirit at the upcoming SD comic-con. SRO will be attendance, will you?

I’ll be honest with you. I just checked my Itunes to make sure, but I have never heard any of Soulwax’s music. Ever. I don’t own any of their music, and I’m extremely unfamiliar with all things about them, although I have heard their name mentioned if that counts for anything. What can I say, there are holes in my armor, we all have them so quit pretending.

Well the point here is that they have made a documentish film about their touring with help from MV guru SAAM. The film was made with footage from 120 shows from every city in every country on all 4 (does Antarctica really count?) continents and from the look of the trailer, it’s going to be a great ride. I love movies like this, not because of the music, but because of the fascinating portrayals of people they tend to capture so intimately. People are crazy and weird and this film looks to be chalked full of that shit. We all know that European electronic outfits, even ones from the 90’s bring out the ridiculous in people.

where the wild things are

As reported a few months back, the Spike Jonze directed version of ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ was too adult-ish for Warner Bros., translated as ‘We want this to be as big as Alvin and the Chipmunks so go back and make it into a kids movie!’. I never read Maurice Sendak’s classic childrens books, but I do love a Spike Jonze movie and was looking forward to seeing what the kid came up with. Now it seems the movie has been pushed back to October 2009, which gives plenty of time for a re-shoot and puts Jonze’s vision of the book six feet under. But wait, there is a petition going around and you know we all love internet petitions. So do us a favor and go sign it. Do something that matters. Help get the word out.

Michel Gondry’s latest film Be Kind Rewind is about Jack Black and Mos Def “sweding” a bunch of classic movies. In Gondryland “sweding” roughly means: (verb) to make a low-budget, camcorder, ghetto version of an established film. So of course Gondry’s meta-mad-mind has decided to swede his own swedes. It’s brilliant, funny, and ridiculous… as all things Gondry are.
As funny as it is, this copy of a copy conceit has probably reached its limit. If somebody swedes this YouTube swede it’s just going to be an animated GIF of Gondry …

Last night I had the pleasure of attending an industry screening of The Darjeeling Limited. While there’s lots to say, I’m going to keep this review short for two primary reasons. Firstly, I really don’t want to spoil anything. And secondly, my opinion on the film is very uncontroversial. I believe the general consensus among thinking moviegoers is that Wes Anderson is a genius and I certainly concur. This movie serves as just one more supporting pillar in that argument.
