It’s Tuesday November 4th, 2008. Which means it’s time to vote kids. We won’t tell you who or what to vote for nor who or what we’re voting for. Just know that we are and you should too. If only so we don’t have to hear everyone complain then next few years about this and that. Suck it up and do something.
As a treat, Momma Maya dropped a quick video for us on the cheap ($9.95 production cost!) to get us in the mood to stand in line and wait …

Mac McCaughan, cofounder of Merge Records, label behind such indie rock darlings as the Arcade Fire:
The bands we work with, we never recommend that they make videos. I like videos, but they really don’t sell a lot of records. What really sells records is touring -and artists can actually make money on the tour itself if they keep their budgets down.

While certainly a pervasive and emblematic symbol of both musical and pop culture, it’s easy to forget that the only reason music videos developed and blossomed …

Who directed this? This video has been out for over two weeks and there’s no director name to be found.

As if you didn’t know, we’re somewhat fans of nudity. Not just any nudity, but quality nudity used in the correct manner. Take “Ain’t No Easy Way Out” for example. In fact, that’s our perfect example. Nudity in music videos isn’t new, but it isn’t very popular. The most hardcore/best video we’ve seen includes nudity, but only because it includes drugs, violence, sex and the like, so it goes with the territory. Which leads us to “Yeah Yeah” by Body Rox.

I meant to mention this way back in the end of January, but a certain Top 79 list was still fresh off of our fingetips and the time for drinking and watching football was upon me. But it’s a few months later and here we go.

There’s a new My Morning Jacket album coming out soon, and it’s called Z. What year is this, 2005? I’m pretty sure the new album is going to be called Evil Urges, or at least that’s what Rolling Stone has to say on the matter. Now I kinda feel bad for my continual picking-on of Subterranean, but come on. Seriously. Do they just have no clue about music? They obviously got to listen the thing, how can they confuse it with an album from 2005? Is there an editor that works there? Someone who likes My Morning Jacket? If I could comment on their posts this would all be much easier, or if I thought they would read my emails. Maybe they’ve invented a time machine and are just a bit out of wack from traveling back and forth so much between time. I really don’t know. I honestly think they were just looking for an excuse to include ‘ZOMG!’ in their post and let it get the better of them. I guess we will have to wait till June to really know which album is going to come out. Z or Evil Urges.
Let the defending begin. I love the internet.

So it’s finally April 7th. Pitchfork tv is a go. The world is changing already, I can feel it. I woke up this morning and felt different. Running a music video site, this whole PTV business is a little scary. It’s either going to shake things up a bit and increase interest in the format on the net, or actually make us inconsequential and force us into oblivion. Who knows. So anyway, the site is pretty nice. I like the scrolling background/info that changes while you are still watching your content, instead of everything changing you can continue to watch the video if you click on a link in the page. The quality looks good too, with a LOW and HIGH option for those of us with challenged internet connections. I’m waiting for them to release their mobile player because that’s definitely on the horizon, along with maybe an iPhone application too, that will allow me to watch streaming videos on the go. This is the future by the way. The internet is finally moving mobile. Give it a year or so and mobile internet traffic will be dominating.
So Pitchfork, welcome to video land. I know you have been fronting for awhile, but you’ve finally made it official. You have gone pro. Although hilariously, you seem to have left out an important part in your new venture. I’m not sure why the internet hates music video directors, but on my trip to your site this morning to peruse the competition, none of your videos told me anything about who made it. Come on, seriously? I guess you can just hide behind your Beta tag and add it later. Although I don’t understand how the Forkcast can mention the director but your site dedicated to ‘music videos’ has neglected to do so. Let the fun begin!
