Death Cab for Cutie - Top 10 Songs of All Time (aka Narrow Stairs mostly sucks monkey balls)

Not sure where the internet is going to weigh in on this new DCFC album yet, but if it’s anywhere on the side of decent, I’ll be up in arms and mystified. I realized that not everyone has had the pleasure of listening to them since before this century began. A lot of people don’t even know that they have any albums besides Plans. Both of these things are a shame because most of their best music was made prior to that album. So in an attempt to help out the lazy and uniformed about DCFC’s back catalogue, I’m going to give you my ‘expert’ opinion on the Top 10 Death Cab for Cutie songs of all time. Listen up.

Band Widgets = The Future!

Everyone, your attention please. I’m declaring this the future of band promotion. Tour info, song streaming, video streaming, mailing list, and everything else that encapsulates the need-to-know info about your favorite band — all wrapped up into a little widget, just waiting to be embedded on your favorite daily read. It’s pretty much a mini-website about your favorite band (well currently for Simiam Mobil Disco) all packaged up nice and tight. It can be updated remotely so you can always stay on top of the latest happenings, without having to go out and check their dirty myspace page. This is pretty much awesome, so someone hurry up and start making these for my Dashboard, or dare I say iPhone. Come on people, get rich already.

Kanye Tour. End of the World?

kanye west

If you are not reading Kanye’s blog daily, or at least subscribing to his RSS, you must be a crazy. I don’t think another website has brought me more laughter or joy over the past year. Anyway, he has a new tour and it’s called, Glow in the Dark. Awesome. The flyer for tour is up above. Awesome. He didn’t announce any dates, only a taste in the form of a blog post called, ‘The end of the world as you know it’. Awesome. Apparently the tour name was announced back in May, because he was worried that if he held off, someone would bite his shit and do their own Glow in the Dark tour. Well, it’s January and according to plan, no one but Kanye and friends are gonna be doing the Glow in the Dark thing — and now we have an image but still no tour dates. Although if you’re wondering if he’s going to play your town, just ask yourself, does my city have a sports stadium or a giant outdoor arena? Then yes, Kanye is coming to town. Keep your kids indoors.

And to keep on with the Kanye love, even though his last album was horrible and leads me to believe that maybe all his albums were horrible and only his videos are worth a damn — here is a second video version for his song ‘Can’t Tell Me Nothin’ (If you missed it the first time). This one has Zach Galifianakis and Will Oldham so you know I’m sweet on it. It was also directed by Michael Blieden.

[Set Photos] Great Lake Swimmers - Your Rocky Spine

Our main man, Scott Cudmore has hooked us up a first look at his new video for Great Lake Swimmers. He’s finished shooting and is now just putting the final magical touches on the clip, so be on the lookout for the premier in the next month. They couldn’t have chosen a better song from Ongiara — ‘Your Rocky Spine’ being one of the best, not only from the album but from their entire catalog (only ‘I Will Never See the Sun’ tops it in my book). It’s definitely in my top 20 songs of the year list too, so if you haven’t heard it, do yourself a favor and get your listen on. All the goodies, after the jump.

BOWL

For those of you who don’t know:

God loves SRO.

It’s a bold statement, yet one that rings true. Case in point, handing us seats to the triple bill in God’s very own private venue, The Hollywood Bowl, showcasing none other than indie powerhouses Band of Horses, Andrew Bird, and The Decemberists.

Live at the Granada (Menomena, All Smiles & Mom)

So this past Thursday, Mom, Some Guy, and Menomena played a tiddy little show at the Granada and SRO was there to take it in. I call this; A show in three parts.
After having been to many shows, it’s my opinion that most live performances fall into three broad categories:
1) Your $$$ Worth
2) […]
