Hey remember The Sea and Cake? Yeah we do too and are happy that they are still making music. They had an album out last year called Everybody and are looking to make more of a comeback with Car Alarm due later this month. ‘Weekend’ is the new single off that album and Tim Sutton turns in a video that is eerily similar to the Constantine video that we posted last week. Kids, woods and fireworks are all common elements between the two videos, although ‘Weekend’ deals with a much younger group and is a more lighthearted affair, rather than the preachy and too literal ‘Our Age’.
This clip turns out to be a lesson in nostalgia, a simpler time when the only things on your mind were riding bikes and swimming. Weekends filled with innocent fun and pure pleasure at just being able to roam your world and be free of the shackles of homework and parental oppression (chores). I remember these weekends like they were yesterday and I still try and have them to this day. Who doesn’t like a good bike ride under a pleasant sun, or a day on the water with your friends? So let yourself be reminded of those good times as a kid and maybe this weekend you can unplug, head out doors and remember what it was like to not have a care in the world. Don’t forget to bring along the boom-box and The Sea and Cake though, they make it so much better.
Car Alarm is due 10/21/08 on Thrill Jockey.
