I’ve always liked Max Tundra. His album Mastered By Guy At The Exchange snuck in under the hype-radar back in 2002 (not really sure that hype had a radar back then). His brand of quirky synth pop reminded me of a more wordy and less structured BS2000. His sound is definitely polarizing and while I don’t rock it day to day, there are numerous occasion where it gets play on my iPod. For example, I like to put Max Tundra on at opportune times like….car rides with not so close friends or dinner parties… and then see the reactions I get. Try it for yourself, it’s fun.
The video here for ‘Will Get Fooled Again’ off his soon to be released album, Parallax Error Beheads You, is a romper room escapade put together by director Woof Wan-Bau. You may remember him from his excellent Mogwai video of 2006 that came in at number 10 in our Top 56 Videos List. There’s definitely a switching of gears since then, but this clip still finds ways of showing off Woof’s flair for the unusual.
The clip finds Max playing dress-up in costumes ranging from band leader to stage dancer to shirt-less finger pointer. Singing pimples, boogers, spaghetti, and molars rounds out the cast. It’s a fun video for a quirky song, but one that also showcases its art direction in appropriate ways, mingling nicely with the off kilter beats and spastic nature of Max Tundra himself. Bravo Woof.
One last thing before you go. Our pal Marc Hogan messed it up again by mis-spelling the director Woof Wan-Bau’s name and to top it off, this time in his benevolent wisdom he decided to link to Woof’s site. Normally this would have been a great gesture, but instead it alerted Woof to the spelling who in turn called out Pfork on it. Good one Marc.
