YACHT – Summer Song (Judah Switzer)

You knew that the dialog was just too funny to be true, the concept too clever to be thought up in this day and age. And you know what, you were right. This video is a direct rip off of the movie Tapeheads and surprisingly I don’t cares and neither should you. I’m surprised it took this long for someone to recreate that moment in movie history as a real video for a real band.



Well, Judah Switzer did and now he’s famous…well, not really famous but people know him. Check out this video and pretend I didn’t tell you about how it’s a direct homage to another film. Forget all that and just remember that you laughed at the part about ‘Touring the Congo’, because that shit is funny. I love this clip. I feel it’s also an appropriate commentary on the dark times that has befallen the music video industry. It was funny and satirical back in 88′, but it seems more appropriate now. It’s no secret that it’s getting harder and harder to make a living directing music videos. Everyone fighting for a piece of a pie that’s been at a steady decline this entire decade. Sad really, but we’ve already touched on that prior.

    Are you kidding me with this? Not a fan of this remake at all. How did you even know about Tapeheads Brian? Did you actually see this movie back in the day, or are you frontin’? The film version is far superior to Yacht’s. Probably because of John Cusak. I guess I hate Yacht now. Probably even you too.

    The song sucks and the video is so light on idea and execution, it’s sad. The whole project should be euthanized. The fact that that Murphy guy from LCD signed them based on this song boggles the mind.

    Yeah I’ll agree that this song blows and I have no idea how they got signed to DFA. The video I like though. It’s simple and even though it’s a rip-off I guarantee that most people have never even seen Tapeheads. I hadn’t. Of course I was frontin’. No way I saw that movie in 88′, you can’t even rent it at Netflix. I was barely alive in 1988.
