Comic-Con 08: Midway Party

So I know we promised you Comic-Con coverage and I know we kinda let that fall through but what can I say, Tom Collins showed up and things got crazy. We do have lot’s of pictures and those will be forthcoming, so you can at least see how we roll. One event that led to some mayhem though was the Midway/DC party that was thrown at a club in the Gaslamp. It was supposed to be about their new game Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, but in the end it was about the open bar, free food, waitresses that wanted to be astronauts and broken toilets.

The game is still the same old Mortal Kombat that we all have played. From the jump kicks and uppercuts to the finishing moves and blood. This time around though they have teamed up with DC comics to breath some new life into the franchise. In this demo they had Batman, Superman, Flash and Cat Woman playable, all with special moves that are indicative of their characters. They have added in some new fighting elements like free-fall fighting: where your character punches and kicks while falling from one platform to another. It seemed quite gimmicky to me. Overall the game played exactly how I would expect it too, so if you are fan of the MK series or are just itching to face off with some of your favorite DC heroes and villains, then this is the game for you.

Although, if I was going to base my feelings for the game solely on the party they threw instead of the game play, I’d be jonzing for this disc like I was 13 again, waiting/hunting for Street Fighter II on my SNES. Now that’s a classic. Getting into this party was a like a lesson for life. ‘Act like you don’t need the shit, and then they give you the shit for free.’ We were on the list to get in but our party was for 6 and our invite was only for 3, so we told the door guy that we’d just pass and go somewhere else. At that point he re-thought things and told us that he could get us all in….and that was that. The rest of the night was a hazy blur of Midway gaming, gin and whiskey, finger foods, dumb waitresses, and comedy. Thanks to Midway for showing us one the best nights SRO has ever had at the Comic-Con. I really hope they make a sequel to Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe next year.

Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe is out Nov 30th. But it now!

I drink every night and every night I drink the same thing. So, you’ll believe me when I tell you that I’m an Tom Collins man. The competition in me makes me furious (you’ve no idea) that the Rockstar-Vodka and the Vesper still dominate the nights and exploits of out generation. It’s time to put those bastards back in their baskets and bring some class back to the night. It’s time for Tom Collins. I challenge you, the careful authors of this great endeavor you call S-R-O, to bring this drink back to the people. If they ask why, ask “who the fuck are you to argue?”. If they ask, “who the fuck are you?”, tell them, “Daniel Plainsview sent us”. If they ask you, “who is that?”, then give them the address to my bowling alley. Bring it back to the people or force the people back to Tom. You’ll know your work is done when you can look me in the eye and tell me that you’re finished.

    Cordially Yours,

    Daniel Plainsview
