Voxhaul Broadcast – Rotten Apples (Luke Asa Guidici)

So I decided to dig out a random email submission from the SRO mail-bag. Usually it’s a scary thing to do, which is why we try and do it with caution, but this time around I feel like I got a winner. Not only is the song catchy and enjoyable, but director Luke Asa Guidici does a marvelous job at making a clip worth watching. Damn, color me impressed.
At first glance it seems that it might be heading down the gimmick-path of despair, but thankfully Luke rescues us and moves into a flowing Western concept, filled with a ‘quarter’ horse, guns, a green screen, and some stock footage that becomes interactive. The director does an excellent job of turning a simple concept into a memorable piece of video. I especially like how the extra footage is incorporated, using it as not only a background, but allowing the characters and the direction of the video to play off it. The video never takes itself too seriously and at the same time balances its campy/amateurish tendencies that so many low-budget videos suffer from these days. Watch the clip, it’s a well done promotion for a deserving band.

Also check out some behind the scenes tomfoolery of the director cleaning up some shit.
The band is also impressive. Voxhaul Broadcast are from LA so go out and support them if you live in the area. They played the Spaceland residency back in March and have a few more dates coming up over the next few months. Check the Space. Also buy their new album, Rotten Apples and support local artists.

Not bad!
I love your blog, and was wondering if you knew anything about these guys: http://www.myspace.com/thehumblefishermen
I saw them recently in Philly. They were drunker than hell but making really interesting music. Making quite a buzz out there, but elusive as hell with press.
The main thing, though, is these are the guys who supposedly Howie Day had to get a restraining order on because they were harassing, prank calling, and heckling him like non-stop as a joke.
So, basically, I’m in.
