YE

Wow, since we mentioned the existence of a third version of Ye’s “Flashing Lights” the blogs have been a buzz acting like they all knew of it when they posted the second one. The third has since been popping up all over the place, and like that game of bashing alligators/mice on the head with a mallet, they’ve all been going down left and right. We’ve held back on purpose however, to give everyone a fighting chance to see this sucker, so have at it. We’ll do what we can to keep it up in whatever incarnation.

As for our opinion, well, we don’t necessarily hate this version like everyone else does. But we don’t think it fits either. As I alluded to before, Jonze’s version seems to fit the best, which we can now see why Yeezy chose to announce it with all of his hubris. Of course, when it comes to the internet, nothing is secret and nothing is sacred. Word is that this was the original version, which obviously Kanye wanted hidden like an old hook-up. Neon’s was the next thing, which hit closer to the mark, but apparently wasn’t close enough for the big guy. So leave it to Jonze for being the charm of the three. Can you blame him?

Still, what the other blogs are tossing out at this version, is it’s weirdness and difference. Indeed, this is their mistake. If you’ve seen de Thurah’s past work (like Human) this is his bread and butter. He does awkward things and makes awkward movements within a frame that isn’t the most normal.

We all know what de Thurah had to say about working with Kanye, but here’s what the man himself had to say about it all per his blog:

I shot 3 vids for flashing lights cuz I ain’t like the first 2. I loved the 3rd one that I released with Spike and hit the world with that. I actually had Sam Speigal, Spike’s brother and co-orchestrater of THE TOUR MUSIC, do a remix 2 the scary one 2 make the music fit. I planned 2 put it on a DVD later this year. No rant’s here just an explanation of why yall getting those other vids rt now that I ain’t approve and why I ain’t finna post neither on my blog. So I hope whoever leaked them got the shine they was looking 4 cause that’s all they’ll get now. And I know that’s incorrect english but that’s how I talk when I want 2. Oh and I’ve just been 2 busy 2 get at the New York Times for all that his Ego BLAH BLAH BLAH bullshit so stay tuned. For fun, I want yall 2 read this whole post in the Grandma’s Boy JP robot voice LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’d like to think that Kanye found him and chose to use him to branch off into an entirely different area concerning his image and creations. Which if so, I hope that this doesn’t stunt his growth in terms of choosing his visionaries. I mean, at least he had the foresight to re-arrange his music to the video, rather than dump it altogether. And I hope he understands that it wasn’t his or de Thurah’s fault. Just a bad mix, like toothpaste and orange juice. Both are good for you, but not together. And yet he called de Thurah’s version “the scary one”. Sigh.

Catch Neon’s version Here.

Catch Jonze’s version Here.

I’ve got to say that although the talk is all right, the vid doesn’t sit quite right with the flashing, and Spike’s version is just so perverted and cool, I really do dig Thurah’s version.

End of the day it’s too Arthouse and too Danish for a mainstream (American) Kanye audience *** Not knocking that audience but there are certain things that will work to the Kanye demo (which is large), and Thurah’s probably not one of those things – although I’d consider myself under the kanyebrella and I really liked it.

It is a sweet video though, no wonder he’s won best new director at cads before. Will keep looking out for his good work.
