JOSE

Life is fuckin’ hard. Now, it doesn’t suck. ((Although I’m sure it comes real close at times.)) We have our own personal problems to deal with, and then we go and develop relationships, be they in the form of family, friends, or lovers and thus incorporate other’s problems as well. Normally when I think about this stuff I go the tough route to help me get by and recall the hardcore speech by Mr. Marsellus Wallace who would say:
Now that’s a hard motherfuckin’ fact of life, but that’s a fact of life your ass is gonna have to get realistic about.
But for those times that I don’t especially feel like a kick in the ass, I think of “Crosses.” Not only the song, but the video.

Filmed in a Buick inside a garage, the simplistic video befriends the song in such a way that it feels like both were created at the same time. You’d think this kind of shot would be boring, but when it comes to a one camera position, much like a one instrument song, everything on the surface must be engaging. “Crosses” is just one of those entities that goes straight to your heart faster than an adrenaline shot and pins you to all of your fears, worries, problems, and sad times, like when your parent(s) embrace you.

Maybe its the importance of the song, the urgency of the guitar strumming that pulls me in. Or the sorrowful faces that ride with Jose whose distant memories of bliss fade in and out ever so slightly. Either way it’s no accident that both this video and Jose’s Bravia joint are two of the most important videos to watch when times get to their most difficult. Maybe next time, i’ll seek out Jose’s words instead, “We’ll cast some light and you’ll be alright, for now.

**Dedicated though, probably unneccesary, to the “Bink” family. Thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.**
