For those who’ve taken the time to listen to Menomena’s, Friend and Foe, first of all you’ve realized the reward you’ve given yourself by setting aside the time to discover their unique sound. Second, you will have no doubt felt that their sound isn’t the kind that likens itself to puppy dogs and ice cream. So it should be of no surprise that their latest, product-supported shot leans to the side of the dark.
In this episode, it’s the bees vs. the crow-tanks and it’s all brought to you by animator Stefan Nadelman via PF Flyers. Before you get all crazy about product support/placement, check this, PF Flyers is only hosting the shot until Halloween, then god knows what. Also, if you check out their site, you will see that they give just as much information about the band as they do director Nadelman. Now add all that together and really, we can’t see how this deal is a bad one. Score one for the official brand of Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez.
Though a shadowy tale of insect against fowl machines it may be, Nadelman manages to keep our attention with a fucked up story (our favorite kind) and top-tier animation that we could really get used to, even in this video world of over-animation. His attention to detail marries insanely well to the band’s tone, so much so that we were officially hypnotized when a certain tankbird dropped a certain battered arthropod down a chute as the song downshifts. Still, the visuals continue to haunt us as does the band’s ominous chant:
Oh to be a machine
Ohh to be wanted
To be useful

Menomena - Evil Bee
Directed by Stefan Nadelman

Is there a chance to post a downloadable video ? I think this is really the greatest vidoe of this year
