Next up is Calvin Harris a disco man from Scotland. It’s time to jump on the Dance Wagon. Let’s catch a ride.
Calvin Harris - Merrymaking at my place.
Director: Kinga Burza
What exactly did you think the video was going to look like when you first heard ‘Merrymaking at My Place’? I’ll tell you what you should be thinking; a PG-13 version of the perfect party, the perfect Scottish party that is. Having tea and crumpets. Putting weird stuff on your head. Eating the roast your Mom made for you. A light bit of making out. The video is a party the way you would describe a party to someone who wasn’t there. How extravagant and how amazing it is to be reckless. How much fun it can be to lose control. It reminds me of a certain Beastie Boys video. But I digress, let me make it simple for you and tell you the five reasons to fall in love with this video; 1) Calvin Harris’ Grandma is adorable 2) The crazy hat party in the bathroom. 3) The fact that Calvin Harris owns a Pink Teddy Bear and it lives on his bead 4) That gold thing is his phone 5) This video is your next party. Show it to everyone and tell them it’s going be merrymaking at your house. Party on hipsters

Calvin Harris – The Girls
Director: Kim Gehrig
You may know Kim Gehrig from her recent video for Architecture in Helsinki’s - ‘Hold Music’. Here we find her behind the camera for ‘The Girls’ clip and it’s important because somehow she gives you everything you’d expect and at the same time doesn’t. Your first instinct is to think of rap videos. If any genre of Music Videos has taken the ‘overuse’ of beautiful-women-as-video-props to new heights, it’s rap. They have exasperated the amount of women they can babble on about and fit into a three minute ‘look-at-me-parade’. 1. So with a nice dance beat and a song exclusively about women of all types, you’d expect to get something flashy and you do — well sort of. You get exactly what you needed, but not quite what you wanted. You get all the different types of women but only if you look closely. Kim Gehrig has made all of the women equal, yet different by using color and color exclusively. This video is exactly 2 parts Calvin Harris to 2 parts color and 1 part choreography with some spice of awesome. The lighting is soft and flattering. The dance movements are unusual. Another video packed with what can only be described as moxie. Kim Gehrig proves she can use what is relatively a simple concept and keep it interesting. I applaud you.

Calvin Harris – Acceptable in the 80’s
Director: Woof Wan-Bau
Let me tell you a story about ‘Acceptable in the 80’s’. I was watching one of my friends taking credit for discovering Calvin Harris 2. He told his girlfriend about all the things this video said. Such as; (in his best 80’s voice) “lime green pants, jump suits, beavers” and so on. I listened to him rattle on and on — then about half way in I realized that those lyrics were never in the song. Calvin Harris says that it was ‘acceptable in the 80’s’ and that he has ‘hugs for you’ and that’s about it. Then, along came the video that my friend had imagined, plus all the things you hoped to forget about the 80’s and a beaver.
All of these videos are available in relatively high video quality on Calvin Harris’ You Tube page. I completely understand the contradiction.

“let them drink inside of my house/make them smoke outside of my house”
cute. i also like how at faux-parties, everyone arrives at the same time. i can only assume they all gather on the front lawn and wait for everyone to get there before knocking…
