The Radar Festival

Well, do you fancy yourself a director? A director of music videos perhaps? Then you need to be aware of the Radar Festival — a video competition held in London that promises glorious prizes and recognition for those who deserve it. It boils down to picking one of the sixteen tracks they have available and then writing and directing a treatment for it. Then you send it in and it gets shown at their festival/competiion. I know if I was an aspiring director I would be all over this. It’s only open to people who have never been paid for work as a music video directory, so don’t worry about our buddy Ace slipping in a treatment and ruining your chances at becoming a finalist. This is amateur on amateur, bring your A-game and prove that you have skills.

Here is what they have to say about themselves.

Only Six Weeks Left To Enter Radar Music Video Festival!

There is no better way for aspiring music video directors to crack the industry than by entering this year’s Radar Festival.

Win one of 20 record label commissions, £1,000 ($2,000) cash or mentoring from world class production companies, The Directors Bureau, Black Dog and Draw Pictures

Every director gets an evaluation of their film from Radar

Up to 240 of the best videos will be seen and judged by record label commissioners

All participating directors will be invited to pitch for new paid work on forthcoming Radar collaborations

All tracks are licensed so directors can use their promo for showreels and film festivals without the worry of getting label permissions or red tape.

Radar Festival has been set up to create opportunities for talented unknown filmmakers from across the world.

From the 230 people who entered last year’s Radar, four directors already have representation with production companies (like Colonel Blimp), nine directors have made or are making promos for labels, two have made big brand commercials and many directors have been invited to pitch for work as a result of Radar.

There’s more… the top 20 promos from last year’s Radar have been screened at festivals around the world and Radar is working on distribution deals for the best 60 promos.

Tracks by artists such as Maximo Park, Kylie Minogue and Just Jack have been released to Radar for filmmakers to base their promos on. Radar is partnered with Dazed and Confused, BBC Film Network, Qoob, Antville and Channel 4 Talent. Label winners will be shown on the DazedDigital site in December, the winners screened in London in January and selected entries will be presented at flagship Apple stores in seven cities across the world

What are you waiting for? Making an iconic music video can take little more than a camera, a mac and an ingenious idea (as seen in Radar’s DIY Music Video Top 10 at http://blog.myspace.com/radarfestival).

Get work, cash and connections and enter Radar now! It costs £10 ($20) to enter and is FREE for students. The deadline is 7th October 2007, for more information visit www.radarfestival.com.
