Icky Thump – The White Stripes
(The Malloys)

Alrighty folks, the Stripes have done and dropped their vision of Icky Thump on the people and it looks to be of the literal type. Equipped with the standard fine looking “Drummer” Meg White and the crazy looking “Senorita” Meg White, we follow Jack “Black Rebel Motorcycle” White as he stumbles his way through consciousness and unconciousness ala Twain, Carroll, and/or Baum.
If nothing else, we give The Malloys credit for their visual style and set design. Transporting Jack into the Mexican Ciudad with a White Stripe twist makes us all want to be there riding striped horses, listening to Mariachis ((Mariachis decked out in White and Red trim instead of the standard Black with White trim.)), and drinking “Black Rum”. The subtitles also add that nice touch to further disorient us in this strange world, unless that is you’re an expert reader of some fine Mexican-imported pirated movie material. ((Don’t worry, we won’t tell.))
Our favorite part, however, is left in the lyrics that we leave with you before you watch the shot. Damn Jack White, we knew you were cool, but showing love to the Hispanics? We thank you and curtsy in your presence.
White Americans, what?
Nothing Better To Do?
Why Don’t You Kick Yourself Out
You’re An Immigrant Too?

The problem with the White Stripes Music Videos is that Gondry use to direct every one of them. Everything fails in comparison.
