If your name happens to be Robin Brown and you are an ungrateful filmmaker/internet radio shock-jock then it has probably occurred to you that we apparently pay no attention to danceparty creationist LCD Soundsystem within the confines of this site.
Also, if your name happened to be Robin Brown, you’d actually be right and successfully called us out on not showcasing a collection of some of the smarter, groovier musicians on the indie circuit.
Now, take this collaborative of musicians led by DFA Records Co-founder James Murphy, and put them in a video directed by DanceBandVideoWrecker Ben Dickenson (who’s cut his chops with The Rapture twice) and you’ve got a shot that is (dare I say?) out-of-this-world! -cue collective groan-
Seriously though, Dickinson gives us an intergalactic ultimate fighter championship, complete with zero-gravity Hadukens, cheesy 80’s effects, a cheering asian girl sidekick, and a tongue-in-cheek, low-budget homage to Kubrick’s cinematic masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey.1 Not that this has anything to do with anything, but while we’re still wrapping our heads around the final shot of this video, Dickinson is working double-time finishing up videos for !!! and round three for The Rapture simultaneously! Damn son, you’re fixin’ to be the Patrick Daughters of 2007! Those boys over at Waverly must be keeping a steady stream of coke, caffeine and whores to each of your shoots fo’ sho! As an added bonus, those cats over at Aphasia Films (who edited the shot) threw up some behind-the-scheme pics over on their Flickr account. Check them out here.
See folks, this is proof that we read all input thrown our way and sometimes actually take heed to some of those crazy notions. However, this is also proof that if we do, we reserve the right to bitch, moan, complain, and humiliate you for doing so. Thus, it is to you Mrs. Brown, that we congratulate you on whining your way into our pages. Savor the flavor as you truly are a “North American Scum.” We salute you!
