Cadence Weapon - Sharks
(Chris Grismer & Duane Chrichton)

CadenceWeapon

God dammit if I don’t love video games and Cadence Weapon aka Rollie Pemberton is a damn fine rapper to boot. So when this ex-Fork staffer dropped this ode to classic gaming for his song ‘Shark’, I thought hot damn. With the help of Chris Grismer & Duane Chrichton, they embark on a melange of classic gaming icons like Donkey Kong, Frogger, Rampage and Double Dragon. There is even dancing men in nice tight yellow get-ups, frolicking under trees (not sure what game that is). The video is top-notch viewing and fits perfectly to Rollie’s lackadaisical yet fierce style of rap; shit, through some D’s on it and you got yourself a stew going. Holla.

The Rapture - Pieces of the People We Love
(Ben Dickinson & Jon Watts)

RAPTURE

So Ben Dickinson has rolled up to the hood again, this time flanked by Jon Watts, packing some Rapture heat, and it seems like the third times a charm for the combo. Although, the first two shots for “Get Myself Into It” and “WAYUH” weren’t anything to really sneeze at either.

Bright Eyes - Four Winds
(Patrick Daughters)

BRIGHTEYES

There is no industry filled with more self-loathing than the music industry, and no limb of the tree highlights this more than the music video limb. Let’s start from the top and work our way down: Saddle Creek premieres the new video from Bright Eyes, arguably their biggest cash-cow and one of the “indie” crossover hits a la the Shins and full-scale “sell-outs” like Modest Mouse, Death Cab for Cutie, and the Decemberists. They do this on AOL Music via some sub-label called Spinner with translates as “pathetic grab for edginess”. AOL music hates AOL because AOL doesn’t stand for music. So, instead, Spinner stands for music via AOL. Self-loathing facet 1: self-loathing is always accompanied by an identity crisis.

Ok Go - Do What You Want
(Olivier Gondry
vs.
Damian Kulash & James Frost)

OKGO

Well, I’m pretty sure it’s safe to say that we all know of the previous Ok Go video for Here It Goes Again. Well, here’s the impossible follow up to that - but wait! There are two versions? And one is directed by the little brother that could Videogum: Music video blog gossip disguised as news!

If Stereogum can get fat by simply opening their email and posting it, then I want to be able to just write random thoughts while I visit music video websites. Plant your tongue in your cheek and enjoy.

LCD Soundsystem - North American Scum
(Ben Dickinson)

LCD

If your name happens to be Robin Brown and you are an ungrateful filmmaker/internet radio shock-jock then it has probably occurred to you that we apparently pay no attention to danceparty creationist LCD Soundsystem within the confines of this site.

Also, if your name happened to be Robin Brown, you’d actually be right and successfully called us out on not showcasing a collection of some of the smarter, groovier musicians on the indie circuit.
