**What started as just a normal post concerning Kasabian, has now turned into a beast of its own. As writing the post for their most recent shot began, I realized that Kasabian had quite the repertoire of music videos to support their tough sounds. It is with this newfound awareness that I opted, instead of posting their newest shot, to post a sort of evolution of their music videos. You can see their growth in terms of size, popularity, and budget, however one thing that has managed to stay constant is their commitment to excellence of sorts in terms of their art and representation. Here we find them with the follow up to their breakout hit “Club Foot” in the outer realms of the galaxy, of course. **
The tricky part of following up almost any creative endeavor, is matching, or if you’re lucky enough, exceeding the quality of the projects in your previous works. With an interesting and actually fitting choice, Kasabian takes the otherwordly approach and goes effects heavy with The AV Club’s version of their third single “L.S.F.” The song is a slower, more chillaxed groove of a song versus the last two singles they’ve released up to this point. Thus, keeping the fans and listeners (aka: Us) on our toes.
In this case, the video chooses to work. Although I can’t help but reminisce upon STP’s shot for “Days of the Week”, I’m still impressed with the Club’s skills as they managed to work in conjunction with the song by providing us with an actually interesting performance video. I say this, because while most of the time I am bored with 99% of performance shots (mostly because of their standardization and mandatory use) in this case, I get lost in the coloring and imagery that meanders in and around the band.
From the movement through the stars, to the glowing wolves, past the running silhouettes, and ultimately into the psychedelic territory of multiple images, I am highly impressed with where we are taken. Although it could be my fascination with outer space that attracts me to such a piece, it seems to me that the AV Club lingers on each idea and effect long enough for us to process it without overstaying its welcome, even if it is reused later in the video. This is the work of someone with a steady hand not only in editing, but in effects, coloring, and directing. Another work that isn’t dictated by what we think we’d like, but what a confident director says we should. From what I’ve heard, this was an expensive shot (that makes the band shudder to think about to this day) but I say this is money well spent. Onwards and upwards.
