Merry Christmas to you, Michael Grodner!

HH

Well, our first official Christmas card came in the mail and it really made our day and warmed our hearts. As you can see above, the generous and thoughtful Mr. Grodner just happened to take a minute out of his busy holiday schedule to mail us a festive yet trump Christmas card. We here at SRO appreciate the gesture and just wanted to thank him back; so a big merry Christmas to you and yours Mr. Grodner!

The Maccabees - First Love (Live/Acoustic)

Macc

So where the fuck is the hype on the Maccabees. A quick gander at the hype-machine tells us that only three blogs in the past six months have made mention of anything at all about them. I do know that their actual video for First Love had garnered them some notice from places like d’ville and other video devotes, but in the music sphere, no one seems to care. So, let me tell you then that you should.

The Shins - Phantom Limb
(Patrick Daughters)

SHINS

The Shins are not just a semi-popular indie-rock band: the Shins ARE indie rock for the general populace. This all started with Weezer, who were the epitome of what we now call indie rock but is better defined as pop sensibilities of the Brian Wilson variety combined with a bravodo-less celebration of the horn-rimmed and non-threatening. Ever since Weezer died in that horrible plane accident after Pinkerton came out and were replaced with that horrible replacement version, this role lay mostly vacant in the music-verse until the Shins swooped in on the scene in 2001 to claim the pop-alt-nerd throne.

Andy Samberg & Justin Timberlake - Surprise In a Box

SURPRISE

Andy Samberg is up to his holiday tricks again. Last year’s Lazy Sunday was a surprisingly funny journey into cupcake fandom and movie obsession and now he’s employed Justin Timberlake to give the world gift giving advice. That advice is pure gold: holiday Samberg is two for two.

Reggie and the Full Effect - Congratulations Smack & Katy
(Maureen Egan & Matthew Barry)

REGGIE

Okay, so it’s the Monday, less than a week before X-mas, and shopping, finals, and deadlines are looming amongst your atmosphere. Why not take a sec before you start, grab a glass of milk, maybe make a PB & J sandwich (to get in the mood) and take a gander at what monsieur Reggie left us back in ‘03.

Lovely Feathers - Frantic
(Jon R. Rafman)

TPC

We all have heard of the Lovely Feathers, blah blah blah…….they play an upbeat rhythmic rock, full of dance tendencies and off kilter vocals, blah blah blah….they hail from the same location as many of your other favorite bands of moment, yes Montreal, and seem to enjoy making music together. Their live show is a testament to that; not only have I heard (around the water cooler) great things about them live, but my two song witnessing leads me to believe it’s the truth…blah blah blah.
