Albert Hammond Jr. – 101
(Patrick Daughters)

Note: What up y’all!! Well, its November 14th, and within a span of 8 days, SRO has grown 3 years. Yes that’s right, James and I both celebrate(d) birthdays as did our wonderful site. Just like J and myself, the site has gone through some name changes and different phases (The Ultra Indie/Hard to Find Self-Produced E.P. Version “You Know You Find It Sexy”: The Upstart, All-White Attention Grabbing E.P. “So Hot Right Now”: and the Newer, Faster, Sleeker, Guaranteed To Kill Every Muthafucka in the Roooom!! Accept No Substitutes, “Shots Ring Out”) We’ve all grownsed up people and we’re ready to continue the onslaught of quality videos and flashy prose. So have a drink on us and get ready for the funk! Let’s Roll!!
Today we start with the all new Albert Hammond Jr. side project. For the first single off of the guitar slinger’s debut album Yours To Keep, we get a very Strokes-like ditty about everyone’s new favorite freeway, the “101″. ((The “405” is soo last year all you Death Cab kids.))
The vid is yet another shining example of why we are all grateful for the work of my boy Patrick Daughters. Here, he shows us that death can actually be quite a cute little conundrum despite its obvious drawbacks. He even shows us how the use of simple little clues (in this case, a bumper sticker and a mural) can help the audience grasp the logic of the storyline. Without those two standard hints, would you have known what led him to believe he could reconnect with his dead body? Maybe, but I doubt it. Daughters shows us that sometimes, a video doesn’t have to be a mystery to be good. Because of this, I’ll let his obvious homage to my freeway shots slide. P-man, if you’re reading this, good job buddy, keep up the nice work! Enjoy my people.
