Scissor Sisters - Land Of 1000 Words
(Directed by National TV)

SCISSOR

I can’t stand the Scissor Sisters. Lets get that straight. Their cheesey horribleness drives me up the wall (Check that above pic to start with), and I am a superfan of the whole disco scene, so much so that I doubt any of you self respecting music lovers could ever know as much as I do, even if you wanted to. I just think that the SS sound like the Bee Gees, only a million times more annoying. ((I think that was the power of the Bee Gees, however, as they should’ve for all intents and purposes, been annoying in the first place, but because their shit was so good, they could take the most emasculated voices in history (next to the Chipmunks) and still make some of the best shit of their time. Say what you want, I already told you I’m a disco fan, you’re the one reading this.)) I’ve since been able to avoid any contact with any Scissorness in my life (with the exception of their last over-the-top single “I Don’t Feel Like Dancing” which work seems to play incesantly without regard for the fact that people are trying to enjoy their overpriced meals) which may be commendable in my eyes, but apparently isn’t good enough for the SS. Ever the purveyors of misery in my life, they’ve gone below the belt and attacked my other fanboy fav, James Bond.

Colbert v.s. The Decemberists

Damn, Stephen Colbert called out the Decemberists on their green screen video challenge and now Colin & friends have countered it! The ‘mulch’ has hit the fan! It’s a battle of geek proportions! [Pitchfork]

Susanna & The Magical Orchestra - Love Will Tear Us Apart
(Directed by Kim Hiorthoy)

SUSANNA

Already, any of you scensters should be on board with Susanna & The Magical Orchestra. For starters, they are little known duo, led by a female. They hail from Norway (Responsible for bands like the red hot 120 days). And they are doing an album of covers ranging from AC/DC to Prince to Bob Dylan to Depeche Mode. Too bad they’ve been around for the last two years and just dropped their 3rd album Melody Mountain.

Britney Spears…Now Open For Business

So it took less than a month, and only a week of hanging with Paris Hilton, and we now get to see what Miss Spears has going on, down there. Not for the faint of heart, sadly. Super NSFW. [The Superficial]

The Blow - Parentheses
(Hooliganship)

BLOW

The Blow has released quite a few albums at this point in time, but the latest Paper Televeision represents a significant turning point for the project. Khaela Maricich has added the talents of Jona Bechtolt of YACHT fame to make the formerly solo endeavor a duo. Long-time fans need not worry as the sound continues on the tepid romantic trajectory of yore with a bit more bouncy rhythm and simple synth beats. In the end it comes off as lovelorn pop that holds love as an idol not because the canon of pop music says it must be so, but because this is actually the emotion fueling Maricich’s fire. As such, what would be overly sweet in other hands is just right and what would normally be contrived is actually clever and witty. Intention does matter; thankfully the Blow’s intentions are sound. If you’re the girl who loves the boy who won’t love you back and you’d like to convince yourself that it’s okay to put your heart back on the line by dancing to some bouncy indie beats, the Blow is for you.

Cadence Weapon - Black Hand
(Fluorescent Hill)

CW

Well here is one that has made the rounds already but maybe you missed it and maybe you didn’t. Either way Cadence Weapon, aka Rollie Pemberton, is a Canadian rapper and former staff member of the Fork who released his debut LP Breaking Kayfabe at the end of 2005 to acclaim and applause. I personally thought it was fantastic, a nice departure from base infested rap, with a tight focus on lyrics which isn’t surprising considering his journalistic history.
