Madvillain - Monkey Suite (Daniel Garcia & Version 2) at Shots Ring Out

I’m not as classically trained in the art of Hip-Hop/Rap as I would like to be, which limits me (and I hate limits). I do however, know a little bit about our boys Madvillain. At least I know about MF DOOM (aka Metal Fingers; aka Viktor Vaughn). Vaudeville Villain is one of an extremely few hip-hop albums that I actually listen to on purpose more than once.

So, after decimating the scene in his first collab with Madlib on Madvillainy, DOOM (All Caps) has returned with Lib in tow to give us a one shot on that tasty new Chrome Children lp that everyone is grubbin’ on. One thing I love about DOOM, is his laid back vocals that take a track and just puts it in an uncategorical element. Couple that with Lib’s dark(?) and mellow beat and we’ve got a track that can just as easily be from the future or from another world. When I listen to DOOM I like to think of him as an old king from days past who’s left his throne and has turned to rhyming to enlighten us all. Yeah, this is why I don’t handle the hip-hop on our site.

Anyways, this video is part 3 of a trilogy of shots presented by [adult swim] for their co-sponsored (with Stones Throw) Chrome Children album. We’ve posted the first two (J-Dilla & Madlib) already. Each one has been done under the fine direction of Mr. Daniel Garcia, which I can’t help but gloat about, as he’s an Hispanic doing some good in the visual arts!! This time he’s worked with visual effects and motion design houseVersion2 to create a fantastic companion piece to the already deep track “Monkey Suite”. I’d like to say it’s about keeping your identity and setting yourself apart in a homogeneous world such as the one in the shot or the one we live in now (or maybe even the blogosphere, hmmm…) Take this dose of hip-hop brought to you by Stones Throw and come back for more all weekend, we’re gonna hook you up phat!!
