Beck – The Information [Album]
(Nigel Godrich, Autumn de Wilde, and Beck)

Beck’s new album, The Information, has finally been released. That means the lazy video onslaught can finally end. Sweet Mercy! No more crappy YouTube videos.
To celebrate, we present you with the video for every single song on the album, now available in high-quality Quicktime. Because we love you.
So what do you think about Beck’s little experiment? Goofy, quick videos that get bundled for free with purchase of the album: extra goodies, or diluting the flavor? “Real” videos from the likes of Michel Gondry are still on the way, so don’t be too much of a hater. You know how you hook up with that guy/girl and it’s just not that great, but you keep doing it because it’s okay and you think said guy/girl has potential. And then when you guys finally seal the deal one night it’s fucking amazing and you’re glad you stuck with it rather than jumping ship? That’s how I think of these videos. I’m counting on you, Gondry. Direct that shit out of that Beck video so all this foreplay can be worth something.
It’s interesting that Sean Lennon’s album+Music Video for every song project also came out on the same day as Beck’s, but Sean’s has taken a completely different approach (aka it’s a fucking masterpiece). It also costs twice as much, so I guess you get what you pay for. Remember the date, kids: October 3, 2006. The day of the epic/non-epic music video releases.
In case poring through all these quirky Beck videos is not your bag, I present you with a clip from Beck’s appearance on 120 minutes from way back in 1993. Thurston Moore does the interviewing. Beck throws his shoe. Mike D shows up to announce his tour with Donavan, Oprah Winfrey, and Nirvana. Damn, MTV used to be a lot cooler…
The video onslaught is found after the break. My favorite track so far is Soldier Jane. The videos themselves tend to blend together after awhile, but you have to give respect to Vicious-Bear and Slit-Throat-Bear rapping in front of Leather-Jacket-Dude (1000BPM).

I would also like to point out that all these videos are available as a free DVD that comes packaged with The Information. So go buy it already! It comes with stickers you can put on that hipster journal/notebook thing you carry in your purse/man-purse.
Buy the album!

I find that it’s good in small sittings, but you can’t watch the whole ‘video album’ in one gulp because of the lack of ideas.I didn’t even try to sit through the last video. Hope Beck feels a bit more at ease with his next album.
I really like Movie Theme; I’ve always liked that effect, it was used a bit in the 80’s and by Ladytron(!).
Watch The Information’s Videos (But Those Stickers Ain’t Welcome)…
Beck’s evil scheme to entice consumers into buying his record includes offering a bonus DVD of home-made videos for each of The Information’s fifteen tracks, and a bunch of stickers so fans could personalize the record’s cover. Although not DVD……
Cellphone’s Dead is, um Dead (ie: the link ain’t workin’). Thanks for all the other videos though.

cellphones dead doesnt work
Cellphone’s Dead should be alive and kicking now. Upload 15 videos at once and there’s bound to be a problem.
Kevathens, I feel pretty much the same way you do. However, I do like throwing on the video album rather than the audio-only album for some reason. I don’t really sit and watch it, but I’ll glance at it from time to time while I’m doing other things. It makes me feel like Beck and Devandra are hanging out with me while I work.
It’s weird, but I agree that the album feels better with the videos.
That’s is just too much Beck for me.
The Rich Girls Are Weeping сомневается в том, что эти самые «рядовые небогатые американцы» будут так уж рады узнать себя среди героев иронических и зачастую даже язвительных песен The Hold Steady. Beck’s off the wagon. This new album is not good. Such an upset.
how come the video “this girl” isn’t on the cd or online…ive only seen it on youtube n its a promo…i actually think its one of the top songs lyricaly
When……
When The Information Comes, We’ll Know What We’re Made From A voi il nuovo album di Beck è piaciuto?
I think this is only my problem, but I can’t play the video because a “required compressor” couldn’t be found…I was just wondering…WTF is this compressor?
Wait. Never mind.
“This Girl That I Know” and “Inside Out” are European bonus tracks. Maybe the videos can be found on the European DVD. In the meantime watch them here:

[...] I like to take this setup as a metaphor representing what it must be like working under a major label, to feel so insulated from the real world as yes-men and suits what you see and where you are. Is Beck yearning for freedom? Or is it that Patrick Daughters feels frustrated that he can’t realize his ideas to the same effect as a Hollywood director shooting a Jim Carrey vehicle? And, most importantly, why the hell were people dancing by the ATM? It’s all so metaphysical… I think I’m going to go watch the other Nausea video because playing around in bear suits in front of a green screen is something I can understand. One things for certain: Mr. Daughters’ slow-motion stroll and dark, Fincher-esque lighting give the video a polished, cinematic look that makes it a joy to watch, even if it feels like you’ve seen it all before. [...]
Beck is a brilliant craftsman who’s work gets exceedingly better from album to album. He doesn’t believe in “filler” tracks at all.
