As of late, I’ve found myself in somewhat of a love/relationship void. I’m not really into finding someone right now, yet I’m always on the prowl. I both despise women and desire them equally at this stage in my life, resulting in some sort of strange stalemate within my ticker. Which brings me to this new joint from The Album Leaf. Off of their latest release Into The Blue Again, Jimmy Lavalle has crafted, in conjunction with Aaron Stewart AHN (aka: Otaku House), a piece that comes somewhat close to my state of heart right now.
The shot consists of a couple that for the most part seems to be divided (via location and split screen). Scored by Lavalle’s subtle, yet grand songwriting, and elegantly woven together by editor Rob Ryan, the piece would lead you to believe that this is a romantic video, but if you pay attention in the end, there is some question as to what was really going on between the couple(?). Which in turn makes one wonder about the feelings behind his lyrics now as well. His words, memories, things he wanted to change: they were all for “someone”, but is that “someone” finally his making this track something of a victory lap? Or has that “someone” turned and left him, thus rearranging the song’s intention as a sort of eulogy for the failed relationship? I assume it’s up to us to create our own meaning out of the song/video (at least until Lavalle sets the record straight).
If you get a chance also, check out Stewart’s blog about the production hosted by those ever so wacky people over at Giant Robot. Enjoi your weekend kids!!

The Album Leaf - Always For You
Directed by Aaron Stewart AHN

The want of woman is a constant battle between my head and my body. Everything about a relationship that I have ever learned is that it will eventually fail and someone will probably get cheated on (That is not me being cynical, that is just the current odds). Something still craves that touch and that openness. It sounds better in theory then in practice. I’ll stick to my contracts for now. Maybe that guy with the paper plan just made the tuff but right decision.
I think they both want different things out of the other but they can’t settle on a happy medium which always equals bad news. In response to George… I think the girl made the decision, cause shes the one who walked away. But that’s just what i got from that scene. Anyway, this song is nice though and the video ain’t bad either!
There’s nothing like being so close to someone, yet so far away. I think the girl made the decision too…everything was brighter around her. I really liked the visuals, eventhough I was depressed by the end. As Marc Almond says…”Beware of love and of dark-eyed men: They’re sweet and they’re tender, But they have no hearts. Just long-smashed cruel shards of broken glass.” But I still believe…
