Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy – Cursed Sleep
(Andy Bruntel)

Will Oldham is such a glutton for the camera. He wants to be a star and once again he returns, front and center in his video for Cursed Sleep. Andy Bruntel tells a little story that follows Will from being a lost and lonely ‘Tree’ man, to a reddened out Ornithologist and finally is wrangled into a wrestling match with everyone’s favorite alien. I know, quite the video.
With his new album getting dropped this Tuesday (a DVD version is also being released with witty footage of Bonnie doing silly things), I figured everyone needed a reminder of the genius and beauty that is Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy. The Letting Go is sure to impress, I have had in on repeat for the past month and while not quite the peer of his opus, I See a Darkness, it still reaches for great heights and can be considered at least an acquaintance. The song Cursed Sleep was in contention for this month’s podcast, but Bonnie didn’t get back to us quick enough so it didn’t make the cut, but believe me, this song is amazingly grand. One of his best!

nice hat.
is this the same guy that did the video with the dead guy in the forest and “the mysterious object” in the truck?
ps. E.T.= scary
I never have any idea what is going on in this guys videos. They mean nothing to me.
[...] Will Oldham is on a tear, this his second video and second single released from his new album the Letting Go. While the video for Cursed Sleep featured Oldham front and center, in his usual ‘im the star’ role, here we find an animated treatment with Bonnie no where to be found. I’m going to attribute this to some sort of unavailability on the part of Oldham because this man seriously loves the camera, but maybe he only does television now since his guest spot on Wonder Showzen. Either way, Einar Baldvin treats us to a trip through the pages of a children’s book, showcasing the most notable characteristics of the medium, such as animal infidelity, papa bear erections, and murder by drowning. If you speak Icelandic feel free to venture over to Baldvin’s site, but for the less educated out there his myspace will probably fulfill your quandaries. Go be his friend, he looks tall and handsome which are my (and should be yours) prerequisites for any kind of new friendship. Oh and by the way I’m back, thanks for missing me (meaning Brian, if any readers out there are differentiating between the 3 competing personalities at SRO). [...]
