The adorableness power of
Mates of State is a well known entity within those in the sphere of indie music. Hell, I caught wind of it and it made me buy all of their albums and see them live at least twice (yet I still crave for more). Well, believe it or not, they’ve upped their power with the addition of Cute Incarnate…their offspring daughter, Magnolia (damn, even her name is cute as hell!) Along with that they’re still touring off of their most recent release
Bring it Back. While it isn’t all that was the behemoth of
Team Boo it’s still a gem. [Visit

Where to begin. MCR was always criticized as being some sorta Green Day knockoff. I was always indifferent cause I lost interest in Green Day after their Greatest Hits release and I never got into MCR. Cut to the release of their newest flick for “The Black Parade” and I cant really blame the detractors for taking notice of some standout lifts. Again, here are some items off the top of my head to help you see what I see, ahem:

Rap Round 2: Lupe Fiasco is the new hotness on the rap scene. He’s friends with Kanye ‘Vuitton’ West and Jay ‘I retire after every album’ Z; so you know he’s hooked up. You may know him from his ‘feautured’ role on Kanye’s ‘Touch the Sky’ or come across his hit song ‘Kick Push’ while perusing the interweb. Any which way though, this kid has the right friends and is making the right moves, so be on the look out for Lupe to take over your hip-hop heart. Oh and by the way, when did Pharrell start showing up in every single GD rap video. That kid is omnipresent.
His debut album Food & Liquor has just dropped on Atlantic and even the Fork has given it some love, so shouldn’t you!

I really don’t like mainstream hip hop on a musical level, but when it comes to quoting their lyrics you can count me in. ‘Try and catch me riding dirty’ has been a mainstay line around the RSO offices for quite some time, so happy days when I found out Weird Al had struck gold and spoofed it. I don’t think I have laughed this hard at a music video ever. One thing though, what the hell is Donny Osmond doing in it, I thought he choked and died or something. Favorite lyric: “The only question I ever thought was hard, was do I like Kirk or Picard.” Holla!

We’ve been keeping a close eye on Sean Lennon here at SRO. Word that he was releasing some sort of short-film video project trickled out back in May of this year but we remained mum as details were just too hard to come by. A trailer was released highlighting a very involved production, stylized look, but keeping most of the details close to the chest. More recently Mr. Lennon has revealed one of the videos in it’s entirety, which coupled with the imminent release of the project, means it is time for us to share all the info we have scraped together on John Lennon’s seemingly favorite son. It’s a long one, so brace yourself. [Visit Shots Ring Out to read the rest…]
