Denmark keeps spitting hot fire, this time it’s everybody’s new favorite art-rock band Mew. Let me say “prog” and “dramatic” and “Sigur Ros” real quick just to get that out of the way. Alright. I’m not sure why all things with a high pitched feminine vibe followed by manly, crushing guitars come out of Europe. It’s just how that area of the world likes to party.
Mew has been gaining steam here in the states, going so far as to be featured in Entertainment Weekly as a “Must”. If you don’t know, that’s your cue to decide whether you want on the Mew train or you want to dismantle the tracks, ASAP. The band’s sound is a thing of passion. As in: you will passionately hate it or you will love this band so hard you’ll start to pattern your look after them quicker than high-schooler mimics Panic at the Disco. Though, to be honest, if I could find a revolutionary war painting as immense as the one in the video I would put it on my wall in a heartbeat. The video itself is in the “performance” vein, albeit heavily stylized and moody. Sam Brown knows how to make simply playing a song look like the most important thing to ever happen.
What does this band mean for my hypothetical boy-girl indie-pop duo, The Mews? It means that Mew better change their name or watch their art-prog backs should they ever come near LA because I will go both Compton and Long Beach on them should I need to. Mew who?

I’m not even going to try and hide the lights. That’s how hip I am. . Amazingly I’m on the fence with both the video and the track. Eh.
I discovered them last November, and seeing them live at the beginning of August was really amazing!
