Ladies and Gentlemen!! Welcome to the first technically official Shots Ring Out Battle Royale!! In the first corner, off their second album, Live It Out , with Poster of a Girl is Toronto, Canada’s own Supersonic Electronic Wonder…… Metric!!

And in this corner, off of their fifth full length release Wet From Birth with Desperate Guys are Omaha, Nebraska’s own Kings of Dance…… The Faint!!

Okay, so here’s the deal. Both bands are highly worthy of being on this site (and our ipods) and since both have videos out (yes they’re older, but I bet most of you haven’t peeped them in the first place) I figured I post them both up for you. However, rather than just rant/praise them separately myself, I figured, as a reward for being so faithful to us, I’d post them together and let you, Our Audience, not only comment on them as you already have and continue to do, but I also decided to put them up head to head and see which video you believe is the better and why. I would tell you my feelings, but I’ll save that for the comments, as motivation for you kids to leave your own reactions.
Also, as incentive, (just like those fundraisers you all took part of in elementary school) if we get enough comments (i’m thinking around 10ish) I’ll also throw in a super suprise down the road for you all! And so, with the lights going down and the contenders at the ready, all I can say is Let’s Get Ready to Ruuuummmbbllleee!!!!

My vote on The Faint, impressive video… and as a side note, may I say the quality of the MOV file is also very nice… thanks and keep ‘em coming.
I’d like to see a battle between fatboyslim and gorillaz! Or linkingpark vs thefaint.
Cheers!
While I believe that Desperate Guys is the more entertaining of the two songs, I’m afraid I have to side with Poster of a Girl. The whole stop motion mixed with the ‘Art School Confidential’ art supplies, figure models, photos and neon paints just doesn’t do it for me. It’s actually a let down to me, because the song has so much potential for a great video and it seemed like it settled with this. ‘Poster’ at least has that whole multiple personality storyline and Emily Haines half-naked and blindfolded, what man can deny such a sight? Also, the dark and mysterious tone of the video compliments the song and overall style of Metric in the first place. Plus, I’d rather see Metric perform at this small club with people dancing than out in the forest inside some mystic cage……but that’s just me. Though I heart both bands, I would still raise Meisner’s arm in victory, not by knockout, but more by 12th round decision.
Lets see here…
The Metric video was good and had a hot and sexy feel to it, and lets face it, who doesnt enjoy that??? BUT, I think it got a tad bit boring after a while. I feel the faint had a little more to offer. Each scene had a little something new to watch and it kept me interested longer. Plus, those little guys had some good moves goin on. I’m taking notes for my next dance party.
oh and can we have a surprise even if it doesnt reach ten comments? I like surprises!
I also choose the faint. I did enjoy the other video, but i also found it to be a little boring. The Faint video had so many different [and random] images to keep me occupied the full 3 minutes.
On a side note, thank you for introducing me to Metric, I think I’m in love with the singer’s voice. Plus, chicks that speak French are super sexy.
hmmmmmm.. im going to have to go with Metric. not by much, and i’m not even sure if i can fully explain why in a meaningful way. i’m going to leave it at i love strobe lights, and it was very strobe-lighty..ish. also, watching the faints video made me want to watch peter gabriel’s sledgehammer, or maybe a-ha’s take on me. i don’t know. there was almost too much going on. if there was less friut and more models dancing, i might have changed my mind.
I check a vote for the faint. The reason is simple. Dancing puppets. Both
videos have a cool initial concept. Dancing puppets and a lady in a poster. The
faint video sticks with this concept longer and gets my vote. The rest of the
stuff in the faint video I could do without. Because what goes with a crazy
dance video is dancing puppets not a highlighted poster and scribbling on a
notepad. As to the metric video. The lady in the poster is cool and the rest is
eh. A band playing in a club, eh. A strobe going off on the audience, eh. I like
the concept of a doppelganger but everyone, who’s anyone, knows what to do when
they meet their doppelganger is to either a) burn
them or b) hit them with a
wrench. Not to faint, my vote goes to The Faint.
P.S. If stupid html shows up it’s not my fault, it Moto’s.
You’re asking us to compare apples and oranges here. I like fruit salad.
The Metric video is a better short film while the Faint video is a better piece of art. Interpret that as you will.
And it’s the Faint’s 4th real album. Shitty remix albums don’t count.
