Superwolf - I Gave You (directed by Mike Piscitelli)

I’ve had a soft spot in my heart labled Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy for quite some time now. His I See a Darkness is one of my favorite records to be sad to and his earlier work in Palace Music is just as good for crying. His real name is Will Oldham and no matter the moniker he records under, his music is enchanting despite its sometimes sparse and barren composition. His voice is the lynch pin to enjoying his music. You either love or despise it, but either way he is a musical force you must appreciate. My recommendation would be to go out and pick up I See a Darkness and if you cant get behind that then quit listening to music.

Here we find Will hiding behind the name Superwolf a collaboration with super-guitar freelancer Matt Sweeny. This video showcases actor Will Oldham in a simple, single take steady-cam shot, following him from the inside of his truck to such remote locations as the tailgate of his truck. The song and video are both sad and remorseful and Will Oldham does a great job at portraying those emotions while singing along in the video. “I’d give you a dream, but you’d just wake from it” sings Oldham, capturing those feeling of unrequited love/like/emotions/worship impeccably. The lyrics and song build up a frustration that leads to a sadness. The video does a good job of visualizing this, while not taking away from the power of the song.

Just watch it and see what you think. I think he just got a little ticked off and had to vent. But why was he in the truck in the beginning? And what does he pick up off the bed of the truck? And is he gay? Let me know.

This video is dedicated to Constant Debt, the song/video encapsulates perfectly feelings that I presently have and the future actions that they might lead me to. (watch your back CD)

Hm.. he very well could be gay. But then again, it could also just be an extremely close friend that did him wrong. As for the thing he pulls out of the truck… it kind of looks like some sort of ear piece. Why he’d have a high tech looking ear piece for a cell phone beats me, but you never know. The shiney-ness of the object doesn’t seem to fit with the rest of the video.

I’d also like to comment on how awesomely ginormous his lower lip is.

also.. when he’s in his truck, it’s almost like he’s waking up from his own dream. just a really bad one. And he’s finally realizing what he’s just done.

Nice points. I tend to agree. The dream is good insight. well played.

What gives you the indication that he is gay? It is we could only believe that a person would bash another persons head in with the small end of a baseball bat if and only if they are in love with them. It nice to know that along with love we attach the emotion of murderous rage. As to the object he throws back to his former lover, shinny metal thing works for me. It had to be something precious that the deceased had or held dear. That would be why he gave it back. I wonder what was on top of the tree we were looking for? All and all a very power video despite the discrepancies.

Since one of the ideas is to split strings not into words, but hopefully into phrases more semantically informative than the words they are made of, doing that better should mean better suggestions, and avoiding what essentially are word n-tuples should make for smaller data and slightly faster querying.
