Sunset Rubdown - Us Ones In Between (Directed by Dan Beirne of STG)

In my continual quest to blow the mind of my film-school roommate, finding small little golden weapons of perfection lying about the Interweb like this makes things so easy on me. The simplicity of this video is staggering, but the beauty of it and its effect are grand. Muttering the phrase, “Why didn’t I think of that!” after viewing it, is blood-on-the-gloves proof of both its grandeur and its coveting inducing influence. My head hurts a lot these days, fed by atrocities like every rap video on MTV or ‘My sweet sixteen’, but for things like this I’ll gladly deal with the pain.

Dr. Dog - Fool’s Life (Jamie Paul Quantrill)

Fool’s Life is from Dr. Dog’s third album Easy Beat, released a year ago, and then rereleased right now. Why? The time is right for the strike, my friends. You see, there are a few truths about music that must be adhered to. The first is that mainstream music will mostly suck, even when it doesn’t. The second is that “Alternative” music will try to combat the mainstream, but, by most measures, will suck just as much. Alternative (currently being remodeled as “indie”) music survives on trends and fads just like mainstream music. I’m not sure where we’re at right now. We still coming down from the pop-punk to screamo-to “Green day wore eyeliner so now we do” goth-punk to the recent mish-mash lull before the next big wave hits. I don’t know what it will look like, but I’m pretty sure it will have something to do with boys jumping. Now, in between the mainstream and the alternative is where all the action is really at.

We Are Scientists - It’s A Hit (Directed By Akiva Shaffer)

You know how you go see a movie or band or an event that normally you would have skipped, because supposedly this girl/guy/it may be “into” you, and then afterward not only do you regret what you saw, but you find that said individual either A) just wants to be friends, B) doesn’t give a […]

Wolf Parade - Modern World (Directed By Adam Bizanski)

Oi peeps! I know its been awhile since you’ve heard from me, and I have an excuse, but according to B its “unacceptable” (apparently “work, working on 2 video projects, school, and alcohol testing” doesn’t count). Anyways, I’ve been dying to talk about Wolf Parade on our blog, but damn if they haven’t […]

DCFC - I Will Follow You into the Dark (directed by Monkmus)

Continuing in the vein of minimalist videos, DCFC’s ‘I Will Follow You into the Dark’ is a beautiful love song put to pictures, simple in its constructions, but weighty in its dismantling.
As part of their Directions collection, Monkmus takes an attractive song that would fit perfectly on that heart-on-the-sleeve mix-tape you’re making for […]
