The Strokes - Juicebox (Directed by Michael Palmieri)

Strokes

Hey kids, sorry for the extended break, J is away in the Fortress of Solitude trying to save the world and B has been working out or something. Anyways, the Strokes have a new album out (remember them?) and though I’m not the biggest fan of it (contrary to Entertainment Weekly) I have to say I came into it with low expectations in the first place. “Juicebox” just doesn’t do it for me and neither does this video.

So why do I post it you ask? Well folks, it’s to serve as an example that We Will NOT Be Fooled. Good lighting, lesbians, and Tobias Funke (AKA David Cross) do not make up for a shitty video. They also do not distract us from random people puking, the accompanying sound effect, product placement (Razr Cellphones) and an old lady cleaning up after a dog. (I mean if I wanted to see this, I would just go to my mother’s house.) And don’t think that I’ve forgotton about the Random Gay Bathroom Sequence either. If I were gay (contrary to popular belief, mostly among my family and friends) I would be offended by it’s pseudo-shock value. Check it folks, no one gives a fuck about homosexuality anymore, unless of course you live in the midwest or 951 area code (in which case you probably don’t listen to the Strokes or watch music videos in the first place), in fact, using anything gay in anything is halfway to cliche-town now-a- days. I mean, if Donnie Darko and Casanova are doing it cowboy style, you know shit’s tired.

I know it isn’t the most optimistic start to the new year of our blog and I hate giving good people bad news, but you ladies and gents need to know the truth. We are better than this.

Okay, but Gyllenhal, Ledger, AND Martinez, all in one setting? THAT sounds like a totally non-played-out, good time waiting to happen. And it was, it was.

Janet I must say I love your comments. Too cool even to comment but always better that way. As for the video, a decent video attached to a good band. They can’t all be gems. What I believed made it lame was the fact that the Strokes aren’t some under the table band. Hey did you attach these two video together because of the morningwood. How many degrees is that?

I like the strokes, but i don’t like this video. It probably doesn’t help that this is one of my least favorite songs on the album. Why would somebody choose it to be a single? All that to the side though, this is a lame-ass formulaic video. Get b-list celeb, check. Cut shots of band playing with actors doing weird stuff with strange urgency, check. Make fun of something uncool(loser dj’s like Rick Dees who know jack about the music they play)while tacitly saying how cool we are, check. Unoriginal, a totally phoned-in video.
